Loose Lips Sink Ships, and They Don’t Do Much For Your Career, Either

Golf channel host Kelly Tilghman says that Tiger Woods might be a candidate for a back alley lynching. The Golf Channel says that Tilghman might be a candidate for unemployment. Everyone says that they're sorry!Scandal has reared it’s ugly head in the unlikely world of professional golfing. It started out innocently enough, on the Golf Channel. now that’s the last place anyone would look for anything remotely resembling excitement. Co Hosts Kelly Tilghman and Nick Faldo were talking about Mercedes-Benz Championship in Maui. The hosts were predicting that Tiger Woods would once again dominate the tournament. There was no special prescience required to predict that. However that’s the point when things went wonky.

When asked what competitors might have to do to challenge Woods, co host Kelly had what some regard as a Michael Richards moment (Can we still call them Mel Gibson moments? There have been so many since then). Tilghman joked that players might have to “lynch him in a back alley.”

Here we go - all over the Internet!

Now Kelly swears that she didn’t know what she was saying. It was a case of mouth in motion before brain in gear. Others found the word lynching, in reference to a black man questionable, if not down right offensive. Still Tilghman swears up and down on a stack of Bibles that this was nothing more than poor choice of words.

Perhaps with visions of Don Imus running round their heads - not to mention Dog the Bounty Hunter, execs at the Golf Channel were quick to act. The Channel has announced that Kelly will be taking some “me time”, for the next two weeks at least. This will give her a chance to think about what she’s done. Kelly’s more of a doer than a thinker - well actually she’s more of a talker than either - and was quick to react. She doesn’t need to be laid off to know that she’s in serious shit. So she’s already apologizing profusely to anyone and everyone willing to listen. Most notably Kelly is snivelling to Tiger. She wants the world to know that Tiger’s a good friend of hers. She’s called him to apologize personally. The standard celebrity fuck up mea culpa went like this:

On Friday, during our golf broadcast, Nick Faldo and I were discussing Tiger’s dominance in the golf world and I used some poorly chosen words. I have known Tiger for 12 years and I have apologized directly to him. I also apologize to our viewers who may have been offended by my comments.

Tiger, responding through his agent Mark Steinberg, had this to say:

Tiger and Kelly are friends and Tiger has a great deal of respect for Kelly. Regardless of the choice of words used we know unequivocally that there was no ill-intent in her comments. This story is a non-issue in our eyes.

Well at least some one is showing some class in this. As for Kelly, I think the important thing is that we all realize she is genuinely sorry for saying anything that might have ruined her lucrative cable channel hosting gig. Maybe she will actually have the sense not to make matters worse in the next two weeks with more phony sounding public apologies. Then again, by her own admission, she’s not a great not for controlling her tongue. maybe she can redeem herself by publicly supporting Barak Obama? Would you buy that? Then again, as a former pro golfer, I’d think that she was really more of a Hilary Clinton supporter. I’m so sorry for that remark - am I fired now??

Summary: Golf channel host Kelly Tilghman says that Tiger Woods might be a candidate for a back alley lynching. The Golf Channel says that Tilghman might be a candidate for unemployment. Everyone says that they’re sorry

Wondertrash celebrity quote of the day:

Everybody is bisexual to an extent. Now men act like women and it’s difficult to have a relationship because I like men in that old-fashioned way. I like masculinity and, in truth, only women do that now. If you go on a date with a woman, they call and say: ‘I’m going to pick you up at seven.’ They take you somewhere great and you can dress like a chick.”
Sharon Stone

Charlie Sheen on his tumultuous year with ex Denise Richards: “They say this type of stuff builds character and all that and what doesn’t kill us makes us bitter - I mean stronger“.

Dialectizer: Here’s a bit of colourful East Coast Canadian lingo - the term ‘flat arsed sluts’. Now it’s not what you think, but I’ll give you a sporting chance to figure it out. If you’re down around rural Newfoundland you might hear the term in the following context - “Is that flat arsed slut in the kitchen?”

Before they were stars: Take a look at Alias Jennifer Garner, back in her high school days!

Think she got asked out much?? Of course she grew up to become one of Hollywood’s most beautiful Jennifers, and marry handsome actor Ben Affleck. Hubby divides his time between Jenn & daughter Violet, pursuing his floundering career, and frequenting strip clubs. So it all worked out, right? Incidentally computer spell check translates Affleck into afflict.
